​Course Introduction:
This is the fitness industry's foundation qualification to kick start a career in health and fitness & start training clients. The aim of this qualification is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to design, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programs within a gym or health club environment.
What will I learn?

Principles of Anatomy, Physiology and Fitness:
You will gain knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology in relation to exercise, which is an essential foundation for all fitness professionals
Key topics:
Understanding the benefits and demands of the body will help with programme writing.
• Skeletal and Neuromuscular system and the effects of exercise.
• Cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
• Energy production and the effects of exercise.
• Components of fitness and its effects on the body.
Client consultations:
Before you instruct a gym-based exercise session, you must plan it. Understanding how and what information to get from your client will improve the effectiveness of your sessions.
Key topics:
• Know how to consult/interview and support clients to change their exercise behaviour.
• Technology and how it can support exercise adherence.
• Know the established protocols for health screening and fitness assessments.
• The importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
Planning and Instructing gym-based exercise:​
Planning and instructing exercise programmes are the cornerstones of a fitness instructor’s role. A fitness instructor needs to have the knowledge and skills to effectively support clients in achieving their goals by prescribing tailored programmes that are well-instructed.

• Learn how to plan a safe and effective exercise session.
• Be able to deliver a safe and effective exercise session.
• Learn how to plan and instruct safe and effective gym inductions.
Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors:
As the fitness industry continues to grow, it is important that you fully understand the customer and have the confidence to support them in achieving their goals.

• Understand the legal and professional requirements.
• Identify some of the products and services that can be offered.
• Learn effective strategies for communication, how to be approachable and how to interact in certain situations.
Health and safety in the fitness environment:
Health and safety are of prime importance in every industry. In this unit, you’ll understand your responsibilities and limitations concerning the duty of care.

• Health and safety in the workplace.
• Hazards and risks in a fitness environment.
• Emergency operating procedures.
Level 2 Gym Instruction Assessment:
1 x Online multiple-choice test.
1 x Workbook portfolio.
2 x Practical assessments.
Entry Requirements:
-The minimum age for entry to enrol on to this course is 16 years of age.
-Learners will need to have a basic level of English Literacy and Numeracy to enrol on to this course.
-Learners will need to have a basic level of IT skills and access to a computer.
-Learners that suffer from any medical problems, injuries or have anything else that would affect the learner in participating in exercise sessions will need to provide a “Doctor Letter” before booking this course.
